United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues Continues Annual Session
The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues continues its 2025 annual session today.
Participants will conclude their interregional, intergenerational and global dialogue on “The rights of Indigenous women” before holding a discussion on the theme “Implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples within United Nations Member States and the United Nations system, including identifying good practices and addressing challenges”.
Speakers to be featured during the discussion include: Alison Kelliher, Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Indigenous Health Family and Integrative Medicine; Robie Halip, Indigenous Navigator Steering Committee; Freddy Mamani Machaca, Indigenous Affairs Coordinator, Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization; Francisco Cali Tsay, former Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; and Katie Kiss, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner.
The 2025 session of the Permanent Forum, a high-level advisory body to the Economic and Social Council, runs through 2 May under the theme “Implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples within United Nations Member States and the United Nations system, including identifying good practices and addressing challenges”.
